David Leiva was born in Almería. At the age of ten he began his music career studying classical guitar and music theory in Barcelona.
He is a graduate of the Conservatori Superior del Liceu in Barcelona, studying classical guitar pedagogy with Guillem Pérez-Quer and Sergi Vicente and flamenco guitar with Manuel Granados. He received lessons from Leo Brouwer, Joan Albert Amargos, Gerardo Núñez, Rafael Riqueni, Paco Heredia...
He is currently a professor in the School of Flamenco Guitar at the Conservatory del Liceu.
With Carisch, he has published “A tutorial of flamenco and its accompaniment – cante & guitar Book &CD¨ in four volumes, "Camarón guitar tab” which includes transcriptions of several songs with the song melody, guitar accompaniment and the guitar falsetas created by Paco de Lucia, Ramon de Algeciras, Tomatito and Raimundo Amador; “Combo flamenco Book&CD” in three volumes, presenting flamenco pieces written in parts for 4 instruments; flamenco guitar, flute or violin, bass and percussion; and the new “Flamenco Guitar Rhythmic Method” which teaches flamenco guitar through flamenco rhythm, el compás. All of this material is included in the “Flamenco Pedagogical Collection” where new books and methods will appear. With the publishing house Periferia Music, Leiva has composed the piece "Flamenco Suite Book + CD" which presents concert pieces for flamenco guitar.
He certifies guitars from the prestigious guitar maker Juan Montes as a guarantee of their sound quality and construction.
In the field of performance he has accompanied great figures from flamenco singing and dancing in peñas and tablaos in Spain. He has played as a solo guitarist at festivals, concert halls and theaters in Spain and Europe, receiving very good criticism.
